The purpose of the Gator Wrestling Club is to assist in the growth and development of our youth. Wrestling stresses self-discipline and physical conditioning giving the young student-athlete an opportunity to build self-confidence and control.
The Gator Wrestling Club started in 2001 and consists of K-8th grade wrestlers (female & male). The Gator’s practice site and dual meet location is at Marsh Junior High School. The 2015-16 season looks to be an exciting year with many returning wrestlers.
The Gator Wrestling Club’s mission is to provide competitive wrestling opportunities for our youth community at the Elementary and Junior High levels.
Thank you for visiting our Gator web site.
It’s time for the 2016-17 season registration. See you at Marsh Jr. High on October 12 at 7pm. We’ll be in the practice room (the old cafeteria). Registration is open to all kids age Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Wow!! Awesome Gator Invitational !! I had several parents and coaches come up and tell me how much they enjoyed it and it’s absolutely because our parents and coaches (and varsity wrestlers!) stepped up and put a lot of effort into it! Cleaned up by 5pm…that’s a good day!
Marsh finished in first place as a team, just edging out the Wildcats who had more than TWICE! as many wrestlers entered!! We did great with 19 of our 22 wrestlers making the podium!
First place finishers included Ricardo Velazquez, Adam Jones, Ethan Jones, David Rudkin, Nathan Harris, Riley Roullett, Xavier Gower, and Zach Soto. Adam Jones was also named MVP in the 8 & Under Division.
Liam Hanford, Gilbert Tiffee, Kane Brown, Alex Santoyo and Jake Stiemsma finished in second place.
Alex Rudkin, Reed Thomas, Alex Pimentel and Mason Sasselli finished third with Liberty Farrell and Stevie Brown finishing fourth.
Special thanks to Verlene Moreno and Erica Pimentel for their hard work and Richard Jones who did a spectacular job as our announcer!
The 2013-14 Wrestling Season is off to a good start. With all the Takedown events and the Kickoff behind us, we’re ready to start the season in earnest.
Our own Joe Rios Kickoff was again a monster event!! with 475 registered wrestlers limited two 6 mats in the main gym at Chico High meant a REALLY long day for everyone. Our thanks go to all who helped make this another successful Gator event!
Mid December, at the new Bidwell Shootout, a Team Dual event, our Varsity wrestlers pulled off a team Bronze despite vacancies across the weight classes because of illness. Actually, we tied for second place, but Chester had outscored us so we settled for third. There
were a few stellar performances. Austin Moreno got four first round pins and snagged Outstanding Middleweight honors. Zach Soto went 4-0 against some tough competition despite feeling under the weather. Mason Sasselli wrestled some of his best wrestling ever! A Gator Good Day!
Our Elementary/JV headed to Oroville’s Wildcat Classic the following weekend. Ethan Jones, Ricardo Velazquez and Riley Roullett captured gold and Riley was named Outstanding Wrestler in his division.
Across the valley at the Westside Invitational our Varsity put together enough points for a Team Second Place!
All this puts us in a great place to start regular season competition on January 4 in Red Bluff at the Top Fuelers Winter Classic!
At the Combat Takedown Tourney held in Sutter last Sat the little guys rocked!! In our under 8 yr olds we captured 4 Gold medals!! Our older guys struggled…hoping for a comeback next week at the Corning Takedown.
The following Marsh Gator wrestlers placed:
First Place – Cole Farrell, Adam Jones, Ricardo Velasquez, Ethan Jones, and Francisco Silva.
Second Place – Stevie Brown, Kane Brown, Tanner Goodwin, Lorenzo Toribio, Tony Lomas-Magallan, and Luther Park
Third Place – Reed Thomas, Alex Pimentel, Zach Soto, Christian McGinnis and Connor Scott.
Wrestling practice starts tonite!! 5:30pm at MJHS. 4th and under in the PE room to the left of the GYM and 5th-8th in the cafeteria. Elementary wrestlers will be done by 6:30. Our first tournament is in 2 weeks!! so every practice is essential!
Wrestling season is right around the corner and many of you have questions. The board will be meeting this month to finalize the schedule, fees, and other practical matters. Watch this space for current info. The Intro to Wrestling sessions which usually starts mid September have been cancelled this year.
Due to space limitations and staffing ratios Marsh Gator Wrestling Club will be limiting new athletes to those in Grades 3-6. We are exploring practice options and would like to expand our coaching staff. Any ideas? Let us know!
Sign Ups will be at Round Table Pizza on November 7, 2013 and practice will begin on November 18th! The schedule above has been updated as much as possible. Save the date for our Joe Rios Kickoff Tourney – December 14th!
